Information About Rachel:
Personal Description:
I am 26 years old and have recently completed a BSc Education Studies and Mathematics. I have 5 A levels grades AAABB in Mathematics, Biology, Geography, Chemistry and Further Mathematics.
I currently work as a support worker for adults with learning difficulties and am a volunteer befriender for children with disabilities. In the past I have also worked in nursery schools in Bristol.
Teaching Experience:
I have experience tutoring privately and I have spent time in schools as both a tutor for maths and science for key stage 3 and GCSE and a general mentor to GCSE students. I have also completed placements in mathematics departments of two Bristol secondary schools, during these placements I taught small groups and a full class, as well as acting as a assistant to the teacher. I have worked with different abilities, and have been able to find an accessible method of teaching.
I also have a lot of experience working with children/young people, including teenagers with learning difficulties and autism, in other settings.
Tutoring Approach:
I have a genuine passion for imparting knowledge, and find it immensely rewarding. I believe that people need to understand the basics before they can grasp more complex issues. I will undertake both long term tutoring to improve general knowledge, as well as intensive tutoring especially for exams. During the sessions I teach the material including real world examples of it's uses I can make complex subjects understandable, and will alter my tutoring methods to individual situations. and give the learner opportunities for practice. I am willing to set homework each week and mark it. I am very flexible depending on what the learner needs.
