Holly - Godalming tutor

Information About Holly:

Personal Description:

I am near completion of a psychology Bsc at University College London and hope to gain a first, In my last exams I got the highest in the year (2nd year exams). I love my subject but also have interests in Art and music. I am based in Guildford and commute to London for my course but my hours are very flexible and I drive so can travel to jobs.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent 3 summers working in a play capacity for a disabled children's charity so have experience of working with very challenging children and this is something I enjoy. I have had training as an ABA/VB tutor for autistic children and this involves teaching children a variety of skills such as speech, numeric and life skills but in a very specific way. I volunteered for 3 years at a drop in centre in Kings Cross for adults who were homeless and had mental health or addiction issues and here I was involved in a variety of activities which involved tutoring and teaching such as teaching the users of the service Internet skills and helping them with work for courses they were doing such as city and guilds certificates. My main interest is in psychology and I love my subject and have done my own research and spend a lot of time doing extra reading and keep up to date with all the important research happening in psychology. I study at the biggest psychology department in the country and its one of the best in the world and have access to the biggest library for psychology books in the country. In addition I have Internet access to all the best journals and science papers which I think could be of great help to someone really wanting to shine at psychology at any level and who may wish to pursue it further. I also have a mini library myself of psychology books that would be of great use! For someone who may want help during their undergraduate degree I have comprehensive notes for the first two years and would feel comfortable tutoring for these exams as well. I would feel very comfortable teaching special needs children in a variety of subjects. In addition I excelled at sociology a level and would be happy tutoring this subject up until A level.

Tutoring Approach:

I have had a lot of experience working with challenging adults and children and therefore take a very individual approach to tutoring as the children I have worked with have all needed very different ways of being taught. The most important approach I believe is being enthusiastic and I hope the children learn to love the subjects as much as I do but also enjoy learning them as well. I have taught children using a play style of teaching when appropriate for their needs but feel the most important thing is to tailor all tutoring to the children so they learn in the best way possible for their individual needs.
