Claire - York tutor

Information About Claire:

Personal Description:

I am a 22 year old female graduate from the University of York where I studied for a degree in Psychology, gaining a grade of 2:1 overall. I have recently completed a PGCE in primary education at York St. John University, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and my love of working with children has led to my involvement with many volunteering organisations whilst completing my degree and PGCE in the last four years. I have played a vital role whilst helping at a local Girlguiding 'Rainbows' unit and regularly attending a charity's play mornings, as well as volunteering as a teaching assistant in local primary schools.

Teaching Experience:

I have just completed my PGCE in primary education at York St. John University, during which I successfully completed two intensive placements as well as four shorter placements. On my final practice I achieved the highest pass mark of "very good". I have gained experience in a number of different schools during the course, with one of my main placements being in an urban school and the other in a rural village school. I feel that this has given me great insight into the diversity of children's needs and has fully prepared me for adapting my teaching to suit a particular child. During the PGCE I was praised for my ability in teaching all areas of the primary curriculum so feel that I am able to tutor children of this age in any subject. I am also offering tutoring in Mathematics for children aged 11 - 14 because I have an A-level in Mathematics (Grade A) and also spent three works successfully working as a teaching assistant in a Mathematics department of a secondary school as part of the 'Students Associate Scheme'.

Tutoring Approach:

My main aim in becoming a tutor is to help children to achieve their full potential. I will assess the needs of the individual child and prepare resources and lessons in order to meet these needs and take their learning forward. I hope that tutoring will be rewarding for both myself and the child because the individual focus of the learning will result in a substantial level of progress over time. I am very flexible according to the hours I will work and where I can work.
