Ashvina - Leicester tutor
Information About Ashvina:
Personal Description:
Hello! I've just graduated with a Law Degree and have been an enthusisastic tutor for about 4 years, since I finished my O-Levels. I would say that I have very creative approaches towards learning, because my mum is a Montessori Teacher, and I've always had an eye for the unconventional yet effective way of getting things done.
I've tutored my own siblings in Maths and Science (which of course required a LOT of patience) but I also expanded my horizons to family friends and neighbours. When I started my A-levels I began to do a lot of editing of my classmates work (especially for English Literature), and they seemed to like the way I explained difficult concepts, so I continued these efforts through my law degree. I absolutely loved studying Biology and to this day am thrilled with a chance to teach someone Science.
I've received 2:1s and 1st class marks for some of my law papers, and I've always enjoyed explaining my work in presentations etc. I did parliamentary style debating extensively in high school and continue to have a love for public speaking and theatre.
Teaching Experience:
No formal teaching experience but have taught many children and youth according to the National Syllabus, and I have a knack for getting difficult points across.
I work well with children, young and old. Am comfortable with anyone up to degree level, and am willing to edit work as well. Have worked with difficult cases before (dyslexic, ADHD) and those learning English as a second language.
Tutoring Approach:
IN SHORT: Flexible.
I assess the situation. If parents request a firm hand, I am able to deliver. If a creative approach is neccesary, I adjust my approach. For things that need repetition and practice, I keep things fresh. I am able to pick out how people learn - either visually, kinesthetically, through audio or internalisation. I tailor make my approach.
BUT you may expect nothing less than consistency and clarity.
I speak English as a first language, but I am however, bilingual. I understand the difficulties involved in speaking English as a second language and have found this useful in teaching kids and even adults who are learning English. I am a nurturing sort of person, and I don't back down on a challenge. I do understand the need for a firm hand, yet I encourage creativity.
I'm really open to a phone call or an email, and you may ask me anything you want to even if you aren't certain about needing me as a tutor.
