Ben - Marlborough tutor

Information About Ben:

Personal Description:

Besides tutoring, I have been employed as an academic researcher at the University of Cambridge, where I studied Mathematics as an undergraduate. I have subsequently worked on funded scientific research at the University of Reading.
I enjoy a wide range of intellectual and other interests, including philosophy, language studies and tennis.

Teaching Experience:

I have been preparing students for Common Entrance, GCSE and A Level exams in Mathematics and Physics on a part-time and occasional basis for six years. I was contracted as a tutor with the University of Cranfield in 2003 and I have studied on professional teacher training courses at the University of Warwick (1999) and the University of Bolton (2007/8).

Tutoring Approach:

Mathematics requires inventive and creative thinking as well as a sense of logic. I encourage each of my tutees to understand things in his or her own way, whilst also insisting on clear methods of presentation and an appreciation of the logical accuracy which is an essential part of the subject.
I aim to examine the fundamentals of the subject with the learner in an enjoyable and interesting way. This has consistently produced excellent results, both in terms of grades and learners' confidence and wider understanding.
