George - St Helens tutor
Information About George:
Personal Description:
I have been teaching primary and secondary for approx. 15 years. I have 3 children of my own and still very much enjoy all aspects of teaching and learning. I am calm, personable and have a good sense of humour. I always see the student as the best they can be and help them realise their full potential in an encouraging and supportive atmosphere where there is no failure, only feedback and where being 'stuck' is seen as positive and an opportunity to work through a challenge to arrive at a place of greater understanding. I believe in rewarding effort and excellence and celebrating achievement, no matter how small that may appear 'from the outside'.
Teaching Experience:
DT qualified 1990 and a year probationary teaching in a large comprehensive in London, thereafter primary KS1 and KS2. Summer/vacation jobs have included TFL with students from all over the world from teenager to adult 60+ I have also tutored and enjoy the different and unique challenge of tutoring at all levels, again from the youngest to the oldest.
Tutoring Approach:
I always start from where the student is at and seek to work with them to acieve their goals... to this end I look to set clear goals from the outset which can be measured to give a real indication of progress. I look to set challeges which stretch but that are withing the capabilities of the student. To this end I seek to carry out a thorough assessment to ensure 'best fit'. I am constantly looking for ways to imorove my own skills and remain flexible enough to accommodate all learning styles (VAK).
