Personal Description:

I have recently qualified as a Teacher of English with The University of Manchester and have extensive teaching experience at Key Stages 3-5. I have an excellent level of subject knowledge in English Language and Literature, being well-read in 17th-21st century prose, poetry and dramtic works, including the earlier works of Shakespeare. I am a firm but fair teacher and always provide opportunities for students to challenge my own interpretations as well as questioning the specifics of the subject critically themselves. I focus on building pupils' confidence in subject knowledge as well as being able to think independently, providing encourgaement and praise when improvements have been made or personal targets met. I am an approachable and positive person and always teach according to the rate of the pupils' learning.

Teaching Experience:

I am a Newly Qualified Teacher of Secondary English and have experience of teaching English Language, Literature, Drama and Media Studies across Key Stages 3-5. I have taught a range of prose, poetry and drama works at all ability levels including pupils with Special Educational Needs, Emotional and Behavioural difficulties and pupils with English as an additional or secondary language. I have also worked as a Teaching Assistant and Mentor in primary and secondary schools, focusing specifically on increasing subject knowlege and awareness as well as building confidence and self-esteem overall in school and otherwise.

Tutoring Approach:

I am used to working one to one with pupils and can tailor my teaching style accordingly to best achieve results for the individual student in my care. I have a positive and enthusiastic approach to teaching and English, encouraging students to build confidence and appreciation of the subject by focusing equally on reading, writing and speaking and listening skills.
