Ayodele - Edinburgh tutor

Information About Ayodele:

Personal Description:

I am a Nigerian research scientist at the University of Edinburgh and my academic background is in veterinary science and parasitology. I am very enthusiastic about my subject and love to encourage young people to explore higher education and career options in science. As part of my job at the university I participate in the training of masters and PhD students which I enjoy. My other interests include literature and dance.

Teaching Experience:

For 6 years I worked with Focus on Higher Education in London as a student ambassador and mentor. My duties included giving talks on careers options and my research, tutoring science students, holding practical/laboratory sessions and participating in science fairs and summer schools for young people.

When I moved to Edinburgh I joined Research Communication in Action, a similar organisation, and continued this work for 1 year before signing up as a private tutor. I have been tutoring now for 6 years

Tutoring Approach:

When I meet a new tutee, I first try to find out their specific reason for wanting tuition and what goals they want to acheive within a period of time. Tutoring sessions are based on getting the tutee to understand the basic scientific concepts and then to retain the key facts on that topic required for examination. These are then reinforced by practicing past exam papers.
