Sam - Muswell Hill tutor
Information About Sam:
Personal Description:
I have recently graduated, reading Physics at the University of Nottingham with a First Class Honours degree. I received straight A grades at A-level in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics and am more than proficient in all sciences, especially in Mathematics (both theoretical and applied).
I have recently completed a Masters in Public Policy at King's University and find that the analytical skills taught through Maths and Science can be applied to a hugely varied field of subjects. Building up this analytical perception is most important in coaching a student and is a focus of my tuition in science based subjects.
I am a friendly and easy-going but i also understand the importance of hard work and commitment to obtain good grades.
Teaching Experience:
I have tutored many students in A-level Chemistry, Maths and Physics, helping students of all abilities, either grasp the basics of the subject or delve into an area in greater detail.
I have tutored many students who needed a better understanding of the subject matter as a whole, but also some who have simply been studying for a specific modular exam. I am happy to tutor in either way depending upon the situation of the pupil and the prevalence of exams.
I have experience tutoring, and working, with children with disabilities and special learning needs. I have also spent 6 months working in a school in Australia teaching and helping in prep in the boarding school (for all sciences, maths and also other areas).
Tutoring Approach:
For science and maths tutoring there can be no substitute for teaching the basics and building upon them. Once the concepts have been taught there must be an extensive practice of questions which will solidify those concepts in the mind. Only by answering questions can a student really know if they understand the subject material.
I will focus on teaching the core ideas behind the subject material and building upon this with worked examples. In approaching a subject analytically pupils can turn theoretical concepts into worked examples. This is the best way of entrenching the subject matter so that it can be recalled for an exam at a later time.
