Personal Description:
I am currently in the final stages of a PhD in English Literature at Birkbeck College, University of London, and am looking to supplement my income by offering my wide range of experience in various periods of literature. In particular I specialize in nineteenth and twentieth century writing, but am also happy to teach other periods.
Teaching Experience:
I have taught extensively at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, on courses studying diverse topics such as literary London, the late nineteenth century, and the Victorian Supernatural. I am also supervising MA dissertations, so am experienced with both large groups and one-to-one tutorials.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to literature has always been to emphasise the fun and exciting aspects of the topic, to see it as a chance to read about different times and places, and to think about the different ways in which language can be used. I firmly believe that learning will be more effective if the topic is approached with a relaxed manner, yet still demanding the full attention of my students.
