Louise - Chiswick tutor
Information About Louise:
Personal Description:
I am a Doctoral student studying Educational and Child Psychology. I have worked with children and adolescents with autism, Asperger's, moderate learning difficulties and specific learning difficulties. I am extremely patient and understand the importance of working with a person's strengths and preferences to help them learn. I have worked with children of all ages within mainstream and special schools.
Teaching Experience:
I have supported teachers within an advisory role to suitably differentiate the curriculum to ensure that children can achieve. I have tutored in psychology and English Literature and took English Literature as an additional subject at University. I was a student mentor/tutor whilst at university, and have also helped adolescents with GCSE's. I have worked with TEACHH systems to help children and adolescents on the autism spectrum to access the curriculum, and understand the importance of structure and routine in these children's lives.
Tutoring Approach:
I am very patient and work with the child to help them find enjoyment in what they are doing. I believe in taking a multi-sensory approach to tutoring and where possible ensure I use visual and verbal teaching tools to aid understanding. I believe that a child needs guidance to learn, but also needs to be encouraged to work things out for themselves. This aids understanding but also instills a sense of pride and achievement in the child for the work that is done. I assess the child's strengths and work out a tutoring programme that is suited to their needs and learning style. Every child/adolescent is different and needs to learn in different ways.
