Lee - Nottingham tutor
Information About Lee:
Personal Description:
I am 31 years of age. I am laid-back and easy going person. I pride myself on my relationships with people. I like to think I get on well with everyone! I love travelling, reading and researching for my masters degree. I love my job and am eager to research new methods of teaching and exciting ways for children to learn. If my lessons don't motivate children to learn, then as far as I'm concerned I've failed! I also love sport, playing squash, cricket and visiting the gym frequently!
Teaching Experience:
I have currently got a job as a Deputy Headteacher and have been teaching primary school-aged children since 1999. I have taught from year 3 up to year 5 but had an active hand in the administration of SAT's across my primary school. I worked as a tutor between 1999 and 2001, once tutoring four students simultaneously. All of which achieved the best possible results for them (2 A*, C and B at A level). So, my current record is 100% successful. I also teach gifted and talented pupils on a Saturday morning at my local university. I love teaching!! I have also taught children in America in 1998 when I embarked on the Camp America Programme!
Tutoring Approach:
I think the most important thing about tutoring is the relationship between student and pupil. I always spend a bit of time finding out about each other - what they're in to, likes/dislikes etc. I also invest a bit of time finding out about preferred learning style - as there is no point 'talking the person to death' if their preferred learning style is kineasthetic or visual. After that, it's important to find out what the student likes/dislikes, finds easy/hard with respect to the syllabus. Then it's important that the materials I provide supplement the materials the student has from class. I then empower the student to make a few decisions about what he/she finds tricky or challenging. I will of course have all the necessary materials available to hand, e.g. past papers. I also like the student to have a checklist of what has been covered/not covered etc. As far as homework is concerned, I appreciate that the student will be getting loads from college so I organise this with them depending on what their capabilities are.
