Personal Description:

I'm 20 years old and I'm originally from Stonehaven, just south of Aberdeen but during term time at university I live in Aberdeen. I am in my third year at the University of Aberdeen, where I study Psychology. I hope to finish my four year degree and then go on to do my postgraduate diploma in education, in order to become a teacher, or possibly train to be an educational psychologist.



Teaching Experience:

I have no teaching experience in any official role, but I have worked with children before in an after-school club, where I did occasionally help with homework. I also tutored my younger brother for his Standard Grade exams.
I was also Prefect and a House Captain at Mackie Academy, which involved a high level of organisation and communication, and working with younger pupils.



Tutoring Approach:

Every student is different, and learns in different ways; some take in pictures better than words or vice versa, for example. Learning shouldn't be a chore, it should be enjoyed in order to be retained. Also, there should be a rapport between the student and the tutor; if they don't get along well enough, the student won't learn as well, and may not feel comfortable enough to ask questions if they don't understand.

Qualifications:

  • 8 Standard Grades; English, Maths, Chemistry, Mod. Studs., Administration, French, History, Graphic Communication.
  • 7 Highers, A in English, Mod. Studs. & French, B in Chemistry and Maths.
  • 1 Adv. Higher in English.
  • Currently studying Psychology at university level.
