Information About Katy:

Personal Description:

I'm a 23 year old graduate from Oxford University, where I studied French language and literature. I have lived and worked in France on two occasions, for a year and a half in total, and therefore have a sound grasp of the French language, both formal and informal. I have 6 months experience of teaching English as a foreign language and plan to pursue a career in that area. I absolutely love teaching and enjoy interacting with and helping students to improve their language skills, and to enjoy it in the process. I'm friendly, and have an imaginative approach to lesson planning.

Teaching Experience:

I have 6 months experience as an English language assistant in an adult teacher training college in France. I also have experience of private tutoring, both in English as a foreign language and in French.

Tutoring Approach:

It depends entirely on the individual person/group's needs and goals, i.e. whether they are aiming for an exam, or taking classes purely for fun or out of interest. Either way, I try to make lessons fun and interesting, be it by simply expressing my own enthusiasm for learning and thus motivating my students, or planning interactive and engaging lessons for the students. Because I am a language teacher, I try to incorporate a mixture of grammar, vocabulary and practise into my lessons, with the focus being on the practical side of things. There is nothing more rewarding for a student than understanding a point of grammar/vocabulary then being able to apply it by producing a sentence or taking part in a conversation themselves, and there is nothing more rewarding for me than observing a student's skill and enthusiasm improving over the course of a lesson.

Qualifications:

• BA (Hons) in French from Oxford University (2.1 class)
• A-levels at A grade in French, English, Geography, Maths and General Studies
