Olá!
So you want to learn Portuguese or maybe you need to brush up your skills and need a reliable, competent and very experienced teacher to support your learning?
Look no further!
I have been working in Essex for nearly 10 years, helping people from all backgrounds learn and ENJOY Portuguese language.
I am originally Brazilian, however I have strong links to Portugal (parents and relatives) and actually was brought up listening and speaking European Portuguese at home.
I started teaching when I was 18 years old - a looong time ago! I have participated in extensive training and workshops throughout these years, in order to improve my teaching skills and be up to date with the latest technologies and ideas in language learning.
Later in my life, I did a BA in languages (Portuguese and English) which helped me to polish my knowledge of the subject I teach and gave even more tools to increment my classes.
Teaching Experience:
I love Portuguese language and love to teach it as a second language.
I love the grammar, the literature, the sounds of the language, the cultural aspects and even the subjunctive!
As a result, I made from Portuguese my profession and because I love Portuguese so much, I don't really feel I am "working" whenever I am helping a learner in my classroom. I feel I am having fun!
I have been "having fun" with the Portuguese Language for nearly 20 years and I also like to write articles for magazines on the subject of language acquisition.
In 2012 I started to prepare students for the GCSE, AS Level and more recently I have been putting together a manual with the syllabus of DIPLE certificates (Ministry of Education in Portugal) so that I can prepare students willing to take on this certificate.
Oh! I write my own teaching books as well.
As I set up my own classroom and courses, in accordance to the European Language Framework guidelines, I also offer certificates after each level is completed.
Tutoring Approach:
When it comes to make a tailored course, I take this philosophy very seriously and no material and course plan is the same as students needs are different and most of all, the speed one wants to have during the classes are also very personal.
I like variety when I plan a class and I usually surprise my students with different and interesting activities based on videos, music, flashcards and lots of cultural awareness too.
I take my students once a year to Lisbon for a "Study Trip" when we spend 5 days immersed in the language, learning the sounds, the new vocabulary, the "taste" of the language and they love it so much! We also get together to enjoy a Brazilian barbecue every now and again, we watch samba shows in Essex etc. Everything is planned so that students can make a strong link between the language and the culture of the people who speak that language.
