Personal Description:

I am a qualified and experienced tutor of Psychology and English, tutoring privately and for national tutoring agencies for more than ten years. Tuition can take place at my home (very close to a mainline station), or I can travel to you, depending on your location - please do get in touch to check. I have a DBS and also professional indemnity insurance. Prior to becoming a qualified, full-time tutor and consultant I worked for over 15 years in corporate environments at management level. I have an in-depth knowledge of Psychology and hold both an undergraduate BSc (hons) and Masters Degree in Psychology alongside my teaching qualifications. In both English and Psychology I focus tuition on the course syllabus and requirements for achieving high grades, whilst paying close attention to the individual needs of the student.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced tutor and have developed many teaching resources to use with students from 11+ up to university level, which I continuously update in line with new syllabuses. I work with students who may be struggling and fallen behind, and those already doing well, who want to improve further to achieve top grades. In order to improve grades, alongside working thoroughly through the course content, I find it is effective to guide students through the course requirements so they really understand what is required to achieve high grades in their subject. Regular lessons provide the best way to make progress, although there are some benefits to last minute support too.
I also offer employability skills training, with CV development, letter writing, interview technique and coaching regarding psychometric testing, and advice for UCAS/college applications.

Tutoring Approach:

I build rapport quickly with my students which allows for stimulating lessons where students can see their own progress. In addition to the actual subject teaching, helping to build confidence is an important aspect of the work I do as a tutor. I take an individual approach with each student to really focus on their needs. Essay writing skills and exam technique are included within lessons.
