Information About Clair:
Personal Description:
I am a Chartered Psychologist registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS). Within the BPS I am a Full Member of the Health Psychology Division and a member of the Special Group in Coching Psychology.
My PhD research (see for example Regan & Horn, 2005) led to a second area of expertise: environmental psychology. Other qualifications include: MSc Health Psychology (Southampton, 2000); CertHE Counselling (Southampton); BSc(Hons) Psychology 1st class (Stirling 1996). I am a woman in my late-thirties, live very close to the Trafford centre and am available to tutor here or in clients own home (within 15 miles of M30). My most recent CRB check was carried out by Manchester PCT in Sept 2007.

SPSS tuition for someone currently working towards an MSc in health promotion
Prior to moving back to the north of England (sept 2007), I worked at the University of Southampton tutoring and delivering lectures to undergraduates (psychology, medicine, and other), postgraduates (psychology, allied health professionals, trainee psychiatrists) over a period of approximately eight years.
Tutoring Approach:
I find it useful to know what individual tutees believe are the best ways for them to learn (e.g. hearing, seeing, doing) and, if they are currently engaged in using this methods, why not. With A level students I encourage
them to try to use both their left and right brains e.g. drawing mind maps, acting out an experiment (if this is something they are comfortable with). I also recommend making audio versions of notes as well as written when preparing for exams.
I see private tuition as fulfuling two primary functions:
1. a means by which someone can get as much individual support as they need to understand a topic they feel they have got stuck on (commonly statistics)
2. to provide an opportunity to work on exam tachnique and identify where marks are potentially being wasted due to a lack of goal specific preparation during the revision period
