Personal Description:

I am a horribly enthusiastic teacher, and expect a high level of commitment from myself and my students. I am married with 3 children who are all going through various levels of education themselves, so I understand the pressures on students to achieve good results.
Being a parent means I can often see 'both sides' and can teach with empathy.
I am an optimistic and friendly person, who others consider to be approachable and fun. (Its not all dull in education!)

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for 6 years at an 11-18 co-ed independent school. Our GCSE and A level students achieved a 100% pass rate at A*-C grade in 2007. In my own class 16 out of 20 students achieved A* in English literature; the highest number of top grades the school has seen in English in one set. That is a testimony to the hard work of the students and the commitment and dedication I expect from them.
I am also a GCSE examiner for AQA at foundation level. The meetings and training I received for this post proved invaluable to my understanding of what examiners want and expect from students.
I teach both English Literature and Language at A'level and enjoy both immensely. I am familiar with the AQA and ED Excel syllabuses. However, during my teacher training I accessed a wide variety of syllabuses and the skills required are very similar in all of them.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it is important to get to know the students strengths and weaknesses very quickly in order to maximise results. I will endeavour to make learning fun and use a range of teaching strategies to do this. All children learn differently and my methods will suit the child's needs. Even though I have taught children of high ability I have also had experience with demotivated children and those requiring more creative approaches to teaching.

Qualifications:

• 10 GCSE passes, 2 Alevels, BA hons in English with History 2:1
