Personal Description:

I am a secondary school teacher who teaches at both GCSE and A Level standard, but also across all key stages. Although I trained as a religious education specialist (including A level Philosophy), I also teach English at the lower key stages and enjoy the foundational work that is so important to a child's success. I have been tutoring privately for four years with a high degree of success for my students. I am also a one to one tutor for Suffolk County Council and enjoy opening up the literary world for students with a varying degree of ability.
When I am not working, I enjoy relaxing with long walks, a good book and time spent with family and friends. I used to work in the Royal Navy where I spent a long term working alongside the Royal Family. In 1999 I returned to university where I studied English Literature and Philosophy before becoming a teacher. I would describe myself as a calm and patient person, who likes cutting through the jargon that both students and teachers have to deal with. This allows me to get on with the important business of helping students to learn.

Teaching Experience:

I am a trained secondary school teacher who has taught for seven years. I have worked in both lower achieving schools as well as higher achieving schools in Norfolk and Suffolk. I am a 'one to one tutor' for many schools and am an expert examiner for edexcel - marking GCSE papers in Religious Studies. In addition I tutor privately and have an excellent record with all of my students. In all cases my students have risen at least 2 grades from their predicted levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy helping students to pass exams as well as equipping them with skills that they might use in higher forms of education and the work place. Most students can gain much by simply applying structure to their work and it is this area where students - in my experience - make the most gains. I am very laid back and enjoy watching students progress at a pace and in a way that is right for them. I am very happy to work to the students area of weakness and will tailor make work to the individuals needs.
