Information About Lucy:

Personal Description:

I'm twenty-seven years old and a native British English speaker. Having traveled and lived abroad, I understand the challenges facing learners of a foreign language, as well as what it means to strive to perfect one's native tongue. I have a degree in Philosophy and English Literature and work as a copy-editor as well as a tutor. I am also a qualified counsellor and work as a play therapist with primary school children. In addition to my love for the written word, I enjoy music, art and film and an keenly interested in psychology and health.

Teaching Experience:

My first formal teaching experience was in Thailand where I trained as a teacher of English as a foreign language in 2004, working with high school students. I then worked in France, teaching English to adults for the Chamber of Commerce in Grenoble. Here I worked with groups and individuals focusing on their particular language needs. Since then I have taught privately here in Edinburgh, working with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. More informally, I have also worked with children in a childminding setting, helping with homework at a range of levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to tailor sessions to the needs of the individual tutee, taking into consideration their language level, goals and interests to make the learning experience as enjoyable and rewarding as possible. I try to work with a range of materials to develop language in real-life contexts and working with both written and spoken language in a balance which suits the tutee.
