Stephanie - York tutor

Information About Stephanie:

Personal Description:

I am an enthusiastic individual who puts every possible effort into everything I do. Being positive and encouraging provides the best possible outcome in almost every situation, therefore I am usually optimistic. I have several interests, including playing swimming, surfing, tennis, football and other sports. I like to read, watch television, socialise, go to the gym and work hard. I am an outgoing, helpful and positive individual.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently in between jobs, having left a position of teacher of science in a secondary school. I have experience of working with pupils with a variety of behavioural issues, and learning disabilities. I have worked closely with pupils with severe disabilities also in a classroom setting and thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity. I have been a form tutor so am familiar with the COPE qualification and the pastoral role within schools. I completed my PGCE in Secondary Science in June 2008. Previous to this I have spent 18 months in China where I taught English as a foreign language in several different settings. This taught me about management within the classroom and in planning. It also gave me the confidence to teach appropriately and it provided me with experience at teaching English to different age groups. Whilst studying for my BSc Hons Biology and University I produced an interactive CD-Rom for GCSE students and presented it to the class as a teacher. I have also spent time with children under examination conditions as an exam invigilator. I have completed my Students Associates Scheme Level 2 in a primary school too. This allowed me to observe several different situations within a school and I learnt a lot from them. I currently study part-time Mandarin Chinese Level 1 at York University.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a laid back but encouraging approach to tutoring. I feel that a relaxed learning environment, where topics are made interesting and fun for the student create a better learning environment and encourage progression for the students. I create a steady work load for the students so that the progress at a steady level, to try to reduce pressure. I create extensive lesson plans so that both the student and I can gain the most from the tutoring session. I feel that providing the best tutoring is about both the teacher and the student progressing together to provide the best learning environment for the student.
