Liane - Abingdon tutor
Information About Liane:
Personal Description:
I am a part-time primary school teacher working in Thame and living in Abingdon. I have a deep love of literature and the English language and for this reason I decided to offer one-to-one tuition to share and pass on my literacy skills to others in the hope that they will receive as much pleasure from the English language as I have. I find my job as a tutor extremely rewarding and fulfilling.
Teaching Experience:
In my role as a classroom teacher I have taught from the Foundation Stage through to Year 6. Therefore I have a very full knowledge of the primary curriculum and of the developmental stages of learning. I have taught many pupils with special educational needs and am adept at tailoring my teaching to meet each pupil's individual needs. I have undertaken regular training to maintain and update my skills in teaching literacy and to enhance my knowledge in supporting students with a range of special needs. I continue to keep this training up to date. For the past two years I have tutored students for the attainment tests at the end of the Primary Key Stages and have also taught pupils with dyslexia and other literacy difficulties.
Tutoring Approach:
On first meeting a pupil I spend time assessing their individual needs and learning style so that I can set up a programme designed specifically to meet the student's needs. I believe that people learn best when they are engaged by a subject which enthuses them. Therefore I aim to teach to the students interests and to make the teaching activities fun. To do this I use a range of teaching tools to add variety to the sessions. I aim to make each lesson challenging but also for the learning to be attainable so that the student feels a sense of achievement and develops in confidence. This is crucial for effective learning and for the student to develop a "can-do" approach to working with and enjoying the English language.
