Personal Description:

Hi, my name is Ben. I am 25 year old postgraduate student currently pursuing a PhD in Earth Sciences at Oxford University. With my academic background I am well trained in Maths and the physical sciences. I Love to teach and help students develop an understanding and passion for math and the sciences. I would describe myself as a very enthusiastic teacher who is highly motivated to help students dramatically improve their level of ability for their subject of difficulty. I am also happy to tutor students to an advanced level of study if necessary.

Teaching Experience:

One years tutoring experience, mostly in Maths but also in Physics, Chemistry and English. I typically tutor students between ages of 11 and 18 for one to two hours per week in their chosen subject. References available on request.

Tutoring Approach:

To begin with, my first priority is to understand the level of ability each student has in their subject and what the main areas of study are in which they need to improve. This normally involves a review of some of the main principles of the relevant topic for the first few sessions and listening to any questions the student may have from what they have learnt to date in class. Once I have an idea of the main issues that need to be addressed I can begin to work on breaking down problems into concepts the student can better understand. In addition to helping my students better understand difficult topics I aim to improve their confidence in learning and increase their enthusiam for the subject of interest.

• Bsc Durham University 2003 (1st class hons)
• all degrees in Earth Sciences. Curently in first year study for PhD at Oxford
