Personal Description:
I have taught in many capacities as a tutor, classroom teacher, special needs tutor, teacher's assistant and was deputy head of English at an Outstanding South London secondary school. I enjoy working with young people and helping them to achieve. I value enjoyment as top of the list. If you enjoy lessons you enjoy learning but I also value making what you learn of a high quality. I think you must have pride and hard work to get the most out of whatever you learn and with those ingredients I believe anyone can do anything.
Teaching Experience:
3 years as a teaching assistant and special needs worker at a variety of schools. Achieved outstanding results with ADHD, aspergers, dyslexic and autistic pupils.
Personal tutoring for young people in maths, music, English and French.
Trained as a TEFL teacher and 5 years experience working at home and abroad teaching children and adults.
Deputy Head of English at a South London secondary school where I achieved fantastic GCSE results and taught from year 7-13. I wrote and delivered schemes of work on grammar, English Literature (Dickens, Shakespeare etc) and English Language.
I currently deliver drama and English in many settings such as prisons, with refugees, in schools and with theatres.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe in building a rapport of achievement and enjoyment with the tutee. Patience and a sense of humour is vital. I would prepare in detail and allow the lesson to be focused and achievable. I have taken on over 12 tutees from this website aged 6-16 and have enjoyed each one. I can provide appropriate references. I set high goals and believe in adapting to the learning styles of the tutees.
