My strengths lie in teaching English, both the language and literature aspects of the subject, and this is reflected in my choice of degree.

Teaching Experience:

During my time at Cardiff University, I volunteered extensively at local schools, and gained a Millennium Volunteers qualification in recognition of my sustained commitment to the community.Below is a list of volunteer work I undertook:

December 2009-March 2010
Pyramid Club Leader, Bryn Hafod Primary School, Cardiff

Responsibilities: Planning and executing activities such as sports, games and arts and crafts with a group of roughly ten Year Three students in order to boost their self-confidence over a period of ten weeks. Interacting with children who have problems with their self-esteem, and improving their social skills and relationships with peers.

October 2009-May 2010
Llanederyn Phonics Programme Volunteer, Llanedeyrn High School, Cardiff

Responsibilities: Undertaking a weekly Phonological Awareness Programme with a small group of Year Seven students in order to improve their spelling skills. Many of the multicultural students had English as an additional language, and thus needed the extra support in order to improve across the curriculum.

September 2010-June 2011
Llanrumney High Read Readers Project Coordinator and Volunteer, Cardiff

Responsibilities: Coordinating twenty volunteers, organising their yearly volunteering timetable, dealing with any queries or problems the volunteers may have in liaison with teachers at the school. I also volunteered on the project, which involved reading with a group of Year Seven students once a week in order to improve their reading, spelling and comprehension skills.
