Information About Yenni:

Personal Description:

My name is Yenni and I am a graduate of Japanese. I love foreign culture and travelling and hope to pass on a bit of what I've learnt!

Personality-wise, I'm very friendly and relaxed. I believe that people learn best when they are learning with people they are comfortable with and those who are interested in their subject.

Teaching Experience:

I have graduated from SOAS with a degree in Japanese and have spent a year studying abroad at Waseda University in Japan so I am confident in my language ability.

I have tutored Japanese nationals in English as well as taken part in an mentoring project with UCL which specialises in mentoring GCSE and A-Level students in foreign languages. Having been through the Japanese GCSE, A-Level and University process myself I have a good understanding of what a student needs to prepare in order to be ready for an exam and also to be confident personally in their ability.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in discussing the student's needs with them first and starting from where they feel comfortable. I adapt my lesson depending on what a student's goals are and what they feel like they need to focus on most. I am flexible in my approach to a student's pace and learning method and am happy to work with people at their own speed.

Primarily, I believe that a good foundation is necessary for future confidence and ability and I hope to be able to complement any Japanese a student is already learning whilst filling in any gaps they feel they have. I understand that Japanese is a complicated language and that grammar from a Japanese teacher's point of view can also be difficult to grasp from an English speaker's perspective. I hope that I will be able to bridge that gap for students by going over grammar points in a more understandable way.
