Information About Janine:
Personal Description:
Over the last 10 years I have been actively involved in performance and media; film and video and live arts; theatre, and mime in the UK, Oman and China either as an actress, director or singer. I would like to write a script for my own film and direct it. I also love all types of visual arts and in the past have done a lot of drawing and painting, but currently I am an amateur photographer and creative writer. I love anything to do travel, socializing, culture, food and language. My academic research interests include the Psychology of the abstract in the field of cognition and language. I particularly interested in onomatopoeia the use of imitative and naturally suggestive words for rhetorical, dramatic, or poetic effect. I plan to go to on to study an MA in applied linguistics specializing in psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics and set up my own photography website with the images I have from my large photo library.
Teaching Experience:
I am an outgoing and ambitious individual who is motivated with 'a lot of get up and go'. I am creative in seeking out solutions to problems, and enthusiastic person who loves networking and interacting with people. . A clear progression from work in the private sector in general and corporate English, to public sector ESOL, citizenship skills, basic skills and then to English for Academic Purposes, English for Specific Purposes in and learning support is demonstrated from this experience. At HE level I taught content and language integrated learning in the social sciences including input in Business, Environmental science, Gender and Media studies, research methods, Sociology and Psychology modules. I would like to become a senior educator working in teacher training and work with corporate English and training teacher in the CELTA and DELTA courses.
Tutoring Approach:
I am also a sociable, proactive, and loyal individual who has a good sense of humour while also being a critical thinker. I maintain long term friendships and good working relationships with colleagues because it is crucial to work collaboratively as part of a team of peers or students, and if appropriate I provide team leadership. I am experienced in teaching and guiding a wide range of ages, and demographic groups. I have excellent active listening and communication skills, and can empower and motivate learners to achieve set goals and objectives. My qualifications, personal attributes and experience are highly suited and relevant for the social science and language tutor as I have proven experience in this field. I can facilitate teaching of the key skills and pastoral support needed in Young or adult learners; or H.E. and F.E. courses.
