Personal Description:

I am currently working on my PhD in Bioengineering at Imperial College. During my time in London I hope to pass on some of the skills that have enabled me to achieve the excellent academic results detailed below:
I graduated top of my class in my school with the German A-level equivalent focusing on Mathematics and Physics. I then went on to complete my BA and MSc in Natural Sciences at Cambridge, focusing on Materials Science but also completing courses in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physiscs. I placed 2nd and 1st in the year in my BA and MSc respectively.

Teaching Experience:

Over the past months I have been actively tutoring Chemistry for GCSE (AQA) and A-level (OCR and Edexcel) for a total of roughly 40h. In addition to this I have been employed to prepare students for Oxbridge entrance exams. During the first year of my PhD I participated in a volunteering-based mentoring scheme for disadvantaged students, which involved ca. 15h of 1-on-1 tuition in a range of subjects as well as more general coaching.During my time in high school I completed ca. 30 hours of 1-on-1 and 2-on-1 tuition in Mathematics with year 5-11 students. I have acquired further experience working with children as a Judo coach.

Tutoring Approach:

Throughout my academic career, I have acquired a range of skills and methods which have enabled me to achieve the excellent results that I did without sacrificing my work-life balance. Building on these foundations, I will develop studying techniques with the student which will enhance the efficiency of his or her autonomous work. At the same time, we will build solid foundations in and around the subject at hand in order to foster deep-level understanding. Obviously we will also target areas requiring special attention and will concentrate on revision close to exam times.

I strongly believe each person's needs in a tuition setting are different, and therein lies the key to a successful tutor-tutee relationship. Only when the student's interest in the subject is rekindled and fundamental problems have been addressed can truly sustainable success be achieved.
