Information About Carlos J:

Personal Description:

I am a native Spanish speaker from Spain with a degree in Spanish and a degree in English at the University of Salamanca (Spain) and Masters degrees on Teaching at secondary, vocational and foreign languages education, Applied Linguistics to the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language and Applied Linguistics to the teaching of English as a foreign language. I am also a qualified teacher in the UK (with QTS) and I am currently an MFL teacher in the Richmond Borough, where I teach Spanish up to KS5 and French up to KS3 in a secondary comprehensive school.

I am very friendly and outgoing and I enjoy meeting people. I like reading, travelling, cooking and practising sports such as tennis, swimming and football and especially handball, which I play regularly as part of a team. Cultural activities such as going to the theatre, the cinema or enjoying live music is something I love, since I also play the guitar and the clarinet.

I live in Kingston upon Thames, but could consider travelling for teaching depending on availability.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching English and Spanish in 2008 with private tuition during my university studies and have pursued a career in the teaching of foreign languages ever since. My experience covers teaching English and Spanish Grammar and Literature and culture to GCSE and A-Level exams (of all major examination boards) and University students. I have also tutored some adult courses both in Spain and in the UK. I've also been an English teacher at the European College of Aeronautics (ADVENTIA) in Salamanca, Spain, a language assistant at a Sixth Form College in Birmingham and I am currently working as an MFL teacher in a secondary school in the Richmond borough, London, where I teach Spanish up to KS5 and French up to KS3.

I am also an accredited AQA A-Level examiner and an accredited examiner for the Diplomas of Spanish as Foreign Language (DELE) examinations on behalf of the Cervantes Institute (a worldwide Spanish government agency, the largest organization in the world responsible for promoting the study and the teaching of Spanish language and culture).

Tutoring Approach:

A professional and friendly approach that seeks the best way for the students to successfully make progress, adapting the lessons to their needs and abilities. For me, the most important thing is that students enjoy their lessons while practising all listening, speaking, reading and writing skills (as well as grammar and translation) within a meaningful and purposeful context that challenges the student through authentic material that presents the a real-life use of the target language.
