Laura - Finchley tutor

Information About Laura:

Personal Description:

I am a confident, creative, organised person. I am a qualified primary school teacher and have successfully completed my induction year. I am passionate about education and seeing young people progress in their learning. I believe that I would make a good tutor as I have the skills and qualifications that are required for such a job. I am hardworking, reliable, honest and punctual.
I enjoy doing voluntary youth and children's work in my own time and I ensure that I take up opportunities that develop myself and my skills as a professional.

Teaching Experience:

I have had one full year's experience in teaching my own class. Prior to my induction year, I completed the four year B.Ed course at The University of Strathclyde. During my university career, I had experience teaching across Scotland: Glasgow, East Renfrewshire, Inverness and Thurso. Before I began university, I also gained experience as a classroom assistant in Honduras, Central America. This provided me with a valuable cultural experience that has greatly influenced the person and teacher I am today. Since, I have also volunteered in other countries such as Africa and Canada to enhance my knowledge of different cultures and education.
During my induction year, I taught a primary four class in a rural school. In my class, I worked with two children who had additional support needs and I gained experience in planning and implementing learning opportunities for these children.
I was a member of the literacy working party, where I was involved in developing the literacy programme within the school.

Inside and outside of school, I believe I have valuable experiences, skills, knowledge, and qualities that make me highly suitable for the role as a tutor of the primary stage.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor, I would use my knowledge and experience to plan appropriate teaching and activities to cater for and meet the student's needs. Prior to attending each session, I would also ensure that I had gathered motivating and engaging resources to enhance the tutoring that I would provide. This would be responsive to the student's age, stage and interests.
My tutoring style would be underpinned by the present Scottish Curriculum: Curriculum for Excellence. I would plan and implement tutoring that tried to meet all seven principles: Breadth, depth, challenge and enjoyment, progression, coherence, relevance and personalisation and choice.
I would maintain a positive and supportive approach throughout all of my tutoring sessions and work hard to meet each individual's needs.
