Personal Description:

I am a fully qualified, GTCS registered, native speaker of French.

I lived and studied in France until the age of 18 but have lived in the UK since 1991, and in Scotland for the past 5 years.

I am comfortable teaching learners of all levels, my previous career was in IT support. I am a patient and committed teacher, but I also like to keep things relaxed and fun for my pupils.

I am as happy teaching conversational French for business or a holiday as I am preparing young people for exams.

Teaching Experience:

I have completed my probationary year in a secondary school in South Lanarkshire, where I taught mixed ability classes from S1 to Advanced Higher.

Before that I completed my PGDE course at Glasgow University, teaching in various schools in Glasgow.

I have detailed knowledge of the current Scottish secondary curriculum, and criteria for grades in examinations and assessments.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe learning is most effective and fun when the learner is being active.

My approach is therefore to get my students to perform, explain and think about their learning as much as possible to keep them engaged and help them retain what they have learned.

I have a systematic approach to teaching, I will first assess the student's areas for improvement by asking for an example of their work or setting them a task.
I give students a clear indication of their level and what they need to work on to achieve better grades. I have found this approach gives excellent results in terms of improving confidence in the subject and ulitmately grades.

My aim is to stretch my students with materials appropriate for their level.

I have my own teaching resources and work on all language skills, Listening, Talking, Writing and Speaking. I am comfortable using technology to aid learning, using for example podcasts and emails. I keep my teaching varied and fun.
