Kerry - Cardiff tutor
Information About Kerry:
Personal Description:
After completing an MA in Applied Linguistics at Cardiff University I began to work at International Baccalaureate. I have been with this organization for nearly two years and currently work in curriculum development. I am interested in how children learn, the best environment for children to learn in, and how best to enable them to reach their learning potenital. I am about to start a PGCE part-time.
Teaching Experience:
I have had previous exerience working with young people and adults in various educational settings. I worked with international students and migrant immigrants while doing my undergraduate studied in the US, being a mentor and providing ESL lessons.
After completing my degree in French, I went to France as an English assistant. I worked in two highschools and a primary school with students of various ages, enabling me to gain familiarity working with students and to learn about their various learning needs and how to address them. In order to supplement my income I tutored secondary school, university and adults in my spare time. I was also able to gain near-native fluency in French. This combined with my BA in French allowed me to gain an excellent grasp of the French language and grammar.
After I left France I went to the Czech Republic for a new teaching experience. It was here that I gained experience teaching adults English as a Second language in one to one and classroom settings.
Since coming to the UK, I have tutored French and English as a second language while completing an MA in Applied Linguistics which was geared towards students wanting to teach languages.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching is very hands on. I feel the student learns best when they particpate and are active in the learning and when the material is relevant to them. Everyone learns differently, and it is important to take this into consideration when working with a student and to find the method that works best for the student. Everyone can learn and be successful in learning.
