Personal Description:

I currently work at a managerial level in the public sector and am undertaking a professional qualification on a part-time basis. I graduated in History and International Relations from the London School of Economics in 2008. I would describe myself as a proactive and driven individual with a wealth of academic and practical experience in the Social Science field. I am also a graduate of the Windor Fellowship Leadeship Programme where I was sponsored and employed by the Department for International Development. I have previously worked at the National Archives in Kew where I carried historical research and advised members of the public on family history.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced tutor and have worked with students at all levels of capability from GCSEs to A-levels for over three years. I am also experienced in tutoring first year undergraduates with writing social science essays. I trained as a mentor with the National Aims Higher Scheme whilst at LSE.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very passionate about English and History and enjoy making these subjects accessible to young people. I strongly believe in allowing students to develop a natural curiosity for these subjects whilst also prompting them to explore their own interpretations and views. My approach is to support students develop an appreciation of English and History through sharing ideas, debating views and discussing personal interpretations of historical events or literature. My method is not to give answers but to ask students open-ended questions. I find that this approach helps foster a self-confidence in the students that I tutor. Alongside the academic study, I also encourage students to develop practical skills, such as being able to debate effectively and deliver presentations with confidence.
