Tamara - Oxford tutor

Information About Tamara:

Personal Description:

Hi, I'm Tamara. I am 20 years old and am studying Psychology at Bangor University, North Wales. During my school education I mostly enjoyed Maths and Biology and studied them up to A Level. At University I spend my free time dancing and playing netball. I am also part of the History of Art society and very much enjoy learning about art and its use in society.

Teaching Experience:

Over my gap year I was trained as a teacher and taught English, Maths, Science and PE in Kenya. I taught ages 6 to 15, both individually and in class. I have also been an assistant teacher in a paediatric ward in a hospital. For my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award community service, I helped in a local children's nursery.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe tutoring requires less lecturing and teaching and more of developing an understanding in the student. Tutoring is usually additional help to school work and therefore the student already knows the answer but just doesn't realise it yet, and so questioning them and probing their knowledge, together the tutor and tutee can develop an understanding of the material required and an answer to the question. I prefer to use conversation when tutoring as this not only allows the tutee to feel more relaxed, but also allows me to work out how the tutee best learns and at the end of each session how much they have understood and what I should cover over the next session.
