Information About Elli:

Personal Description:

Before coming into teaching, I worked in the Music Industry as a professional session singer. The work was varied and diverse. I sang with many named artistes and toured on an international level. I also have extensive experience in the recording studio. In 2005, I deceided to 'change direction' and studied Performance Arts, gaining a BA Hons Degree in the subject in 2008.
I studied Shakespeare, Stanislavski and many other drama practioners and methods.
I feel that because of my life experience, I bring a very friendly approach to my teaching. Also, being a 'mature student' myself has added to my understanding of needing alittle 'help' at times.
My approach is a mixture of theory and practical. I like to make sure that my student understands where he/she is approaching the given subject - be it an acting method or a scripted reading.

Teaching Experience:

After graduating with honours, I went on to gain a Post Grad teaching degree (PGCE). I have been teaching singing privately for the past eight years and started teaching drama and performing arts since 2006. Whilst doing my PGCE, I was employed as a part-time lecturer for performance arts at Salford University teaching 2nd year degree students.
I have taught at a private performing schools whose ages range from 6 to 18 years old and at private acting academy that is attached to ITV studios in Leeds.
Because of all my experience, I am able to cover three subjects to any level - drama, singing and Musical Theatre.

Since 2013, I have been tutoring at my home. Please note: I have cats and dogs so be aware of this if you have any allergies.

Tutoring Approach:

On our first meeting, I like to find out just where the student is at in their given subject; what their past experiences are and what their expectations are of having extra tuition. An understanding of their strengths and weaknesses is also important to find out at an early stage so that together, we can plan a way forward.
I am a friendly, patient and easy-going person with a very good sense of humour but I take my teaching very seriously and remain quite passionate about drama and performing arts on the whole.
I always like to make sure that the student leaves my class with full understanding of the work we have done and will ensure that any questions or concerns are addressed before the end of the lesson.
