Information About Julie:


Personal Description:

I am a 44 year old specialist teacher with additional qualifications for Dyslexia and Dyspraxia. I have a lovely home in Alwoodley where I am willing to have clients come to work, as well as working in the client's own homes. Parents and carers are more than welcome to stay for my sessions. I am willing to travel throughout the Leeds area.



Teaching Experience:

I have taught children and adults with special educational needs, including dyslexia, DCD/dyspraxia, dyscalculia and general reading and writing difficulties for the past 20 years. I have taught in mainstream primary schools and special needs units, focusing on children with moderate learning difficulties. I have also worked with dyslexic adults for the past six years as a tutor. My present job is advising teachers on special needs provision and compiling individualised programmes for children with special needs.



Tutoring Approach:

My approach is very much based on identifying the specific needs of the individual and putting together a very structured support programme to meet those needs. Each session is broken down into sections, focusing on very specific activities to develop reading, writing or maths skills. The activities all follow a multisensory approach and always finish with a fun educational game. I can supply sample lesson plans if required, however I tailor all of my sessions to the individual needs of my clients. I do set some simple homework tasks, dependent on the age and ability of the client, though I would always expect school-set homework to take priority over this.
