Personal Description:
My name is Nadia, I am 28, I live in North Kingston - I teach mainly from home, but in some instances I am willing to travel.
Teaching Experience:
I have experience teaching GCSE English Literature and Language - this includes newspaper analysis, creative writing, as well as textual analysis and essay writing.
Tutoring Approach:
My teaching is centred on very close and thorough textual analysis. My aim is for a pupil to know their set texts inside-out, back-to-front, upside-down and so on. Essay writing also features largely. I assess a pupil's grammatical and other needs from their written work - and usually some grammatical and spelling work becomes a small part of the lesson. (Though I do check as standard a pupil's grasp of apostrophes - I have yet to meet a 15 year-old who uses them correctly!)
My ideal situation would be to have a nice stretch of time over which to really get to know my pupil and to respond to his or her individual needs; I believe progress comes from consistent hard work over a period of time. I certainly encourage pupils to read outside the syllabus - what they read is entirely dependent on their ability and of course personal interests. However in the absence of time, I am able to help a pupil prepare for imminent exams - sometimes simply revising texts and thinking about a different theme/essay question with a teacher is highly beneficial and gives a little guidance to the overwhelmed student.
