Information About Sophie:
Personal Description:
I have recently completed a PhD at King's College London and also have degrees from the universities of Oxford and Manchester. I have a strong academic background and my research touches on a variety of different subjects including literature, philosophy, theology and film. I have published a number of articles and am currently working on my first book. Prior to commencing my PhD, I worked in event management for four years which gave me the opportunity to travel extensively as well as an insight into business writing, marketing and administration. I have a lot of energy and enthusiasm and besides teaching and writing, my interests include running, capoeira, going to the cinema and theatre and cooking.
Teaching Experience:
I have two years experience teaching English language, literature, history and business writing and oral skills at the Universit de Paris Ouest in France. I have also taught French translation and philosophy at King's College London and Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths. I have tutored in both the UK and France. My students' ages range from 9-40.
Tutoring Approach:
My priority when tutoring is to provide students with the skills they need to express themselves confidently in both their oral and written work. My sessions are both fun and challenging since I push my students to think for themselves rather than simply giving them the answers they want. I put particular focus on dealing with any specific problems or worries the student may have about a particular subject. I can give tailor-made lessons on exam and writing technique as well as oral presentation. My students find me friendly and approachable - my biggest strength is perhaps my ability to explain difficult and complex subjects and ideas in interesting and exciting ways.
