Information About Anna:

Personal Description:

I am a female twenty-year old medical student originally from Northern Ireland but currently living in the West End of Glasgow. I personally enjoy studying and finding out new things and wish to pass on this knowledge and enthusiasm. As well as studying I enjoy going to the gym, spending time with my friends, running, mountaineering, cooking and I attend Muay Thai classes.

Teaching Experience:

I believe that teaching is an asset of mine and that my experience reflects this. For 3 years, i.e. from the ages of 14 to 17, I worked as a tutoring assistance for a tutoring company called Kumon. In this role I tutored children from the ages of 4 to 14 in Maths and English. This included reading, grammar and comprehension skills.

Following this I tutored two 14-year-old pupils in maths which helped them raise their grades and get into the schools they had applied for.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the fact that I have recently attended school and sat GCSE and A-level exams gives me an advantage when it comes to my tutoring style. In the first tutoring session I will begin by assessing the pupil's most basic knowledge of the subject in question. For example, if it is mathematics I will assess the pupil's basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills before moving on to more challenging topics. This is because in school children are often pushed to master advanced topics before they fully know the basics, leaving them confused and frustrated. I therefore begin at the foundations and build up from that, listening to the pupil's questions and focusing on topics they find most challenging. This improves their overall performance in a given subject, rectifies 'silly' mistakes they may make when sitting exams and most importantly builds their confidence for later years of learning.

• A-level Biology (grade A), Chemistry (grade A), Maths (grade A) and French (grade A)
