Information About Thomas:

Personal Description:

I'm a recent graduate from Coventry University, having read History there. In university I studied modern world history, but during my A levels I studied England and Europe in the time of the Tudors and the reformation, and am interested in and personally read about many historical periods. Therefore, I feel confident that I can help with any historical subject that is likely to come up. I also lead the International relations society and environmental society debating teams during my time in those societies. I have a personal passion and interest in both History and English Literature.

Teaching Experience:

For 18 months I was an instructor with Rugby Sea Cadet unit, teaching children aged 12-18. I did undergo a full CRB check for this position, which has since expired. I underwent a variety of instructional method courses and qualifications while an instructor there. I was also involved in mentoring and tutoring programs while in school, assisting both younger and older pupils who were struggling with History and English, in coursework, exam, and presentation preparation. I have also performed work experience at schools at a variety of ages.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to help a student develop the key skills necessary to really get to grips with the subject, for example the analysis of sources, than simply to give them the answers to a particular question, as I feel this helps not just with understanding the subject but also with confidence in putting their skills to practical use in exams, presentations and coursework. However, ultimately it is down to the particular needs of the student in the individual case and I am more than willing to adapt myself to their requirements.
