Personal Description:
Hello!
My name is George and I have just graduated and started working in Bristol. I graduated in Engineering from Cambridge University in June and have started working for Rolls Royce. As I find it so rewarding, I hope to do some tutoring alongside my job! In my spare time I like to play lots of sports and (annoyingly for my housemates!) dabble on the violin and guitar. I am very approachable and thoroughly enjoy teaching.
Teaching Experience:
1) Class helper during my final years at school, working with a GCSE maths class.
2) Taught sailing to adults and children in 2006 for 6 months in Greece.
3) Was a teaching assistant for an A-Level D.T. class during my third year at university. This was part of the Simulus Scheme and primarily involved helping students with their final year projects.
4) SEEK (Science and Engineering Education for Kids) and outreach volunteer which both involve fortnightly workshops for primary school children on basic science.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that the most important thing about good tuition is the ability to know when the tutee actually understands. It's all too tempting to just explain it and assume it has gone in! Asking leading questions and letting them do the talking are good ways of checking that you're making progress.
Though interest comes through understanding, I try to make lessons engaging by generating a friendly relationship with the tutee and adding relevance to information with context. This is particularly important with maths, which is so easy to make really boring!

- Fully qualified RYA dinghy sailing instructor.
