Thomas - Newcastle-under-Lyme tutor

Information About Thomas:

Personal Description:

I am originally from Newcastle-Under-Lyme, having studies at St. John Fisher High School receiving 5 A*'s and 4 A's at A level, and 3 A's and 2 B's at A-level. I then attended the foundation course in Art and Design at Staffordshire University, for which I received a merit. I studied my undergraduate degree (music) at York University, and studied my Masters in Music at Keele University, for which I recieved a distinction. I am a published scholar with an musicological article published on the analysis of popular music. I am currently on the second year of my PhD in Music, at Keele University.
In my free time I enjoy television comedies, listening to and making pop music, and sort, particularly korfball, squash and tennis. I write and perform music with the pop trio Cats in the Alley; we have several albums and over 100 live gigs under our belt.

Teaching Experience:

I have two years experience of teaching piano on a one-to-one basis, teaching beginners who are now up to their grade 3 standard. I combine syllabus and classical repertoire with theory, pop and jazz style, as well as composition.
I have aided university students, including postgraduate students in their written work.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to keep a relatively laid back and unpressured atmosphere in my lessons; engaging with the students in a friendly way to encourage a friendly relationship with the subject matter. I find that, contrary to upsetting the learning environment, this actually helps to motivate the pupils who feel unthreatened by the lesson.
