Personal Description:

I am 26 years old and am passionate about the importance of language learning. At a time when the numbers of students studying a language nationwide is decreasing, I believe that it is extremely important to make people aware of the benefits which language learning can bring.

I enjoy travelling in Europe and have spent time living and working in France, Germany and Austria, where I was able to develop my linguistic skills and experience and appreciate different cultures.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching foreign films and playing tennis and golf.

Teaching Experience:

Since the beginning of September I have been tutoring French and German at an independent college in Edinburgh where I teach both the Scottish Higher and the English A Level courses. My class sizes are very small, with a maximum of two students in a class.

I also have experience of undertaking teaching placements in three secondary schools in Scotland, where I was able to observe various teaching practices and develop my own teaching style.

Additionally, I have valuable experience (approximately 17 months in total) of teaching English in Austria and Germany, which enabled me to observe different education systems and to compare the teaching styles of Britain with these countries.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is important to identify the specific needs of the student and to concentrate on these during a lesson. I try to prepare dynamic lessons which encourage the student to have a genuine interest in the language and to maintain and develop this interest. This will enable to student to be motivated and achieve a better standard of work.

I am also a big believer in adding a cultural element to a lesson wherever possible so that the student can learn about the country(ies) where their chosen language is spoken and not simply learn the language without any cultural awareness. In my opinion the cultural dimension enriches the language learning process.
