Information About Brenda:

Personal Description:

Despite my Italian surname (my married name), I am English and was born in Oxford. I am a lively and enthusiastic 59 year-old teacher, mother and grandmother. I have been teaching for over 25 years and I have always enjoyed meeting and working with students from all over the world. I teach part -time at the moment at a language school near Oxford, and I have some spare time at the weekends and/or in the week, during which I am happy to tutor students who need help with their English skills.
My other interests include seeing my family as often as possible, reading, cookery and running (at a competitive level, despite my age!). I also very much enjoy going to the theatre and cinema.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 25 years' experience teaching English as a foreign language to students at all levels (beginner to advanced), both in multi-national classes and on a one-to-one basis. This has involved preparing students for international examinations, including IELTS and the Cambridge First Certificate, Advanced and Proficiency.

I have also had a great deal of experience in proof-reading and correcting academic papers, assignments and theses for university staff and students at both the Oxford universities and universities in Europe and the rest of the world. In addition, my work has involved proof-reading and advising students on academic papers to be presented at international conferences.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to be always ready to listen to students' needs, to be flexible and open-minded and understanding of their individual problems and concerns regarding their studies. In any feedback on students' work, I am aware of the necessity to be positive and supportive.
I therefore encourage discussion and alternative possibilities, which I see as being more beneficial than using more traditional correction techniques that often only define what is considered 'right' or 'wrong'.
Every student has an individual approach to their studies, and it is my aim to give my students confidence in themselves and their ability to achieve their goal.
