Edward - Camden Town tutor
Information About Edward:
Personal Description:
I'm 23, white British male, currently studying for a Masters in Ancient History at UCL, having completed my undergraduate degree in the same subject. I grew up in Cambridge, where I also went to school, and now live in central London. My two main hobbies are music and rowing: I play piano and organ to diploma level, and have coxed, coached and rowed for 6 years. During my degree I was heavily involved in Drama and Musical Theatre Societies and I directed the Bloomsbury Musical of the Year. I'm happy to teach French, Ancient History, music and music theory, and if needed, University admissions.
Teaching Experience:
As well as Latin and Greek, I also learnt Egyptian heiroglyphs and Babylonian cuneiform which can give a tutee a valuable insight into the primary literature in Ancient History, and gives me a very strong grasp of grammar. UCL is in the top 6 Universities in the World, so I have had expert tuition throughout the my own education. I studied French during my degree, and can teach up to at least GCSE. My best experience has been learnt from coaching rowing for 4 years in Australia and England at 3 different schools to all levels and ages of school children, specialising in technique. This has given me considerable experience in both individual and group teaching of a technical and complex subject. I am diploma level piano and organ, have some experience teaching both, and am happy to teach them again along with music theory if needed.
Tutoring Approach:
I am most comfortable with individual tutoring to give a personalised and informal approach to learning. For shorter problems I prefer to encourage them towards the right answer through leading questions and, if necessary, some level of explanation. For essays and longer questions, I ensure the tutee knows the fundamental basics, before laying out some key points and building up a final answer. At no point would I wish to spoon-feed answers to a tutee - I would rather they fully understood the problem, even if that meant a degree of discussion and some explanation of other areas. I would expect some level of preparation, usually reading or a small amount of memorising before each class.
