Personal Description:

I am a 29 year old Postgraduate Law Student and I have just returned from 1 year working in Barcelona. Previously, I have lived abroad in Lille and Strasbourg (France), Oviedo and Madrid (Spain), the Hague and Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and Warsaw (Poland).

As you can see I love languages and am fluent in Spanish, French and Dutch. I have also picked up Catalan since I have been living in Barcelona. Because I have always enjoyed learning languages myself, I love being able to pass on my hints and tips and understand the difficulties that most students face when trying to master a language.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught pupils and students of a range of ages. In Spain, I taught English for a month in a Spanish summer school for primary children. I have done home-tutoring for a 6yr old boy and also 14yr old twins who had very different language needs and focuses. I have also held conversation classes for 3 of my professors during my time at foreign universities.

Recently, I have been teaching conversational French to my colleagues in Barcelona. I have also undertaken a number of translation projects from French, Spanish and Dutch to English.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring varies depending on the needs and the age of the student.
However, I always try to make it is as practical as possible so if a student needs to pass an end of year exam, then we focus on giving him/her the best tools for coping with test questions; if the focus is oral preparation then I try to use as many real-life examples so that the student learns to face up to everyday situations and can then start using the language to communicate with people from that country.
I tend to do most tutoring in the students home.
I believe in creating an environment where the student gains confidence and self-belief which I find is the first battle with foreign languages.

Qualifications:

• 1st class honours degree in French and Spanish.
