Jack - Portsmouth tutor
Information About Jack:
Personal Description:
I am an experienced CRB checked, English University Lecturer, fully qualified to teach English as a foreign language (TEFL). My teaching style is pro-active and flexible, having worked in a variety of settings with different age ranges. This has included commercial language schools, schools and institutions of further and higher education throughout the UK and overseas. I enjoy establishing a rapport with students and making them feel at ease, so they are able to learn and enjoy the experience.
(I have a full UK driving licence and can use public transport also)
Teaching Experience:
As a former University and High School Lecturer in China, I have worked with a wide variety of ages and abilities (from year 7 through to PHD Degree level). This involved teaching adults and children whose first or main language is not English. I have done this in the UK and abroad, where my students learnt English for both business and leisure reasons.
I can provide lessons on basic Mandarin vocabulary/introduction/culture/etiquette.
I have experience of helping with routine homework, assignments, exam preparation, more focused revision and making dull subjects interesting.
Tutoring Approach:
I always use a range of course books and materials, including a variety of audiovisual aids. My English lessons have a strong emphasis on dialogue and conversational skills, but more formal exercises, language games and literature are also used.
The content of all my lessons can vary depending on the reason why the student is learning English or another subject, e.g. whether it is for business use for adults, school work for children, etc. I aim to make subjects like maths interesting and enjoyable and believe that this gives the foundation for exam success.
The aim of my English lessons is to encourage the students to communicate with each other using the structures and vocabulary they have learnt and to improve the four basic language skills: listening; speaking; reading; and writing.
