Rob - Hornsey tutor

Information About Rob:

Personal Description:

I am currently a masters student at a London university studying mathematics (currently with a first class average). It was not so long ago that I myself studied the maths A-level and as such I have a good idea of how everything works. I am comfortable with all modules within the subject with the exception of statistics! I can also give potential students a good idea of the maths they need to move smoothly into the university setting when going to study a hard science degree like maths, physics or chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored several times before. Former students have included both A-level students and gap year students brushing up on their maths before entering universities.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage a practical, problem solving approach to mathematics. Solving problems is the best way to see why and how maths works. I would normally work through supplementary questions from the standard A-level texts (both my own and the students), showing students how I would solve given problems. We would then discuss theoretical aspects of the solution and then the student would go on to solve further problems. I would also aim to give a little more understanding than the A-level syllabus expects.
