Information About Shelley:

Personal Description:

I am a friendly and approachable tutor with over 2 years experience tutoring a range of subjects. I completed a BA Hons degree in Education in 2008, and gained qualified teacher status in 2011.
Education and teaching is a passion of mine and something I enjoy - I try to ensure that I make it an enjoyable experience for my pupils also!

Teaching Experience:

Whilst at university I completed work experience in a local special needs school, working with pupils one on one and in small groups, which was something I enjoyed very much. During this time I worked with pupils aged 7 - 11 years old.
I also took part in the Students Associate Scheme and worked in a local High School as a teaching assistant with pupils aged 11 - 16.
After I left University I worked as a Tutor at a local College, providing one to one support across a range of Btec, A-level and GCSE courses, which is something I enjoyed thoroughly.
I am currently working as a key stage 2 teacher, and have tutored both primary and secondary pupils.
I am able to provide specialist tutoring for dydlexia - I have used toe-by-toe and Power of 2 in the past but am willing to discuss other interventions.

Tutoring Approach:

I think that it is important to make sessions interesting for the pupil and tailored to their individual needs and learning preferences. Sessions usually last 1 hour, apart from the first session which is up to 30 minutes. I do not charge for this initial meeting as it is more a time for me to get to know my pupil (and his/her parents where appropriate), what they want to get from our sessions and what their current level of ability is.
I try to use a variety of resources during sessions, and will sometimes set 'homework' tasks where I feel it would be beneficial.
