Personal Description:

I am a mid-forties mother of two, ex-teacher now working as a Biochemist within the NHS.
I have a degree in Food Science, which contained substantial amounts of nutrition, chemistry, Biochemistry and Microbiology, which I followed with a PGCE in Home Economics and General Science. Since leaving teaching I have undertaken a number of training roles within the workplace, including one to one training and delivery of personal skills courses, and have also been involved in the supervision and co-ordination of work experience for teenagers.
I relate well to young people, and run the childrens group at my local church, in addition to voluntary help with local scout and music groups. I acheived grade VI standard in clarinet, at school, continued tuition at university and continue to play regularly.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Home Economics, including nutrition and sociology, to A-level, and science to GCSE level. I also helped with one to one tuition to improve students basic english. In addition I have gained a lot of experience in the biochemical sciences since transferring to the pharmaceutical sector within the NHS, giving regular one to one training to laboratory staff.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a friendly interactive approach to learning, with the aim of improving students confidence in their own abilities, and working to improve barriers to learning. I feel it is vital that the student enjoys the sessions and finds them interesting, and also recognises that they have made progress. I would work with the student to identify initial targets, based on any relevant subject syllabus or guideline and include consideration of feedback given by their current teachers. We would then develop a programme of tuition, which would also include some independent work by the student and regular review of progress.
